Defensive Driving
The objective of the training is to refresh and upgrade the drivers’ skills so as to:
- Understand the concepts of defensive driving.
- Adequately prepare for driving trips.
- Anticipating potential hazards & avoid accidents
- Stay alert on the road
- Choose safe driving speeds.
- Drive safely on the Ugandan roads and traffic
At the end of the theory training, the class will be divided into small team groups and each team will be given a set of situations to analyse, present and discuss with the rest of the class.
Formative assessments will be undertaken during training. Trainees will be assessed at the end of a session as illustrated above, if they have already acquired the outcomes they can proceed to the next stage. This shall be done using short quizzes and oral questionings during the training sessions.
Summative assessment will be undertaken at the end to determine if the outcomes of the training have been achieved. This will be done during the practices, using a post training written test and evaluation forms at the end of the training.
PRACTICE SESSIONS: After the theory, we shall have in-vehicle practice sessions. This shall commence with vital pre-trip safety checks and inspections including tyres. This will be followed by a commentary drive. Each practice group will have one delegates driving with 3 other delegates in the vehicle.
The group will be coached with emphasis on the key points and issues raised in class. A short route near the training center that will include heavy and light traffic maybe used. The practice ends with discussions and a debrief resulting from the commentary drive highlighting areas that one needs to work on.
Upon successful completion, the candidates will be awarded a “Certificate of attendance.”
Preventive maintenance, chauffer & security driving,4X4 orientation classes are small and limited to a maximum of 20 trainees per session.Delivery is flexible as driver times are unpredictable.
Trainees have to call in and book space on a session. Training can also be arranged at the clients’ premises if desirable. Training is divided into practical and theory, trainees would have to complete both sessions to qualify.
For increased flexibility they will be allowed to do them on different days but in the same week.
Driver training works. Statistics from insurance companies, government departments, car manufacturers and fleet customers prove accident rates drop by at least 25% after initial training
